TOWNS & REGIONS - CENTRAL ATLANTIC COAST
This region of Martinique is mainly agricultural, however along the coast there a some great beaches further south and excellent sailing opportunities around Le François with numerous tropical islets with breakers and white sandy sea beds. As you get further north, the Caravelle peninsular offers a rich countryside which leads right out into the ocean.
Le Vauclin
The town itself isn't the most interesting in Martinique. However, Pointe-Faula has what the French call a ‘fond blanc’. Fond blancs are areas of coastal waters where the sediments of sand have accumulated to the point where they almost emerge above the sea’s surface. As a result, the water inside the barrier is very shallow, turquoise, and a pleasure to splash about in. It is an ideal place to stop for lunch. The K’Bana restaurant is located just behind the beach overlooking the fond blanc. Pizzas and salads cost from around 12 euros and other main courses from 15 euros.

There is also an excellent beach to the south at Grand Macabou, which is often deserted and is surrounded by a green landscape with coconut trees for that perfect shade from the sun.
Le François
This is mainly an agricultural region whose fertile soils have been further enhanced by the La Manzo dam irrigation system. The coast at Le François is well-known for its band of breakers, many islets, and fonds blancs (areas of coastal waters where the sediments of sand have accumulated to the point where they almost emerge above the sea’s surface) which make it a very pleasant place for sailing excursions. The Habitation Clement should not be missed. This colonial house and working distillery has been converted into a very beautiful museum. Trinité / Tartane
This town has a beautiful beach and coastline, which stretches out 12km to the Caravelle Atlantic Peninsular and nature reserve. The Tartane / Trinité area also offers rich countryside with banana and sugar cane fields. The Château Dubuc, an old sugar factory dating back to the 17th century is also worth a visit.
