HIKING
Hiking is one of the best organised activities in Martinique with numerous marked trails through tropical rain forests, up the world famous volcano (Montagne Pelée), or the Pitons du Carbet mountains, or along wide stretches of tropical beaches and stunning coastlines.

Montagne Pelée
For serious hikers it is recommended that you climb up Montagne Pelée (from Morne Rouge) through thick foliage and overgrown trails. If you get towards the top on a clear day, you can see Dominica to the North and St Lucia to the South.

Grand Rivière and Anse Ceron (Le Pêcheur)

Less difficult but still very strenuous is the 5 to 6 hour coastal tropical rainforest trek between Grand Rivière and Anse Ceron (Le Pêcheur).

Gorges de la Falaise

An easier hike (but can be slippy in rain) is along the Gorges de la Falaise which is a ravine leading to a waterfall.

Coastal Walks
Excellent coastal walks include the Presqu'île de la Caravelle which has a peninsula leading out into the Atlantic towards Chateau Dubuc's ruins or along the Sainte-Anne Atlantic coast between Les Salines and Cap Macre.
